Money Market: Bank borrowing declines

ACCORDING to the weekly statement of position of all scheduled banks for the week ended Nov 04, deposits and other accounts of all scheduled banks stood at Rs10,407.61bn after a 0.38pc decrease over the preceding week’s figure of Rs10,446.97bn.

Compared with last year’s corresponding figure of Rs9,052.94bn, the current week’s figure was higher by 14.96pc.

Deposits and other accounts of all commercial banks stood at Rs10,346.07bn against preceding week’s deposits of Rs10,386.78bn, showing a decrease of 0.40pc. Deposits and other accounts of specialised banks stood at Rs61.53bn, higher by 2.24pc against previous week’s figure of Rs60.19bn.
Investments of all scheduled banks showed a decline against the preceding week’s figure. Compared to last year’s corresponding figure, the current week’s figure is higher by 9.95pc

Total assets of all scheduled banks stood at Rs14,063.74bn, lower by 0.45pc over preceding week’s figure of Rs14,126.90bn. Current week’s figure is higher by9.21pc compared to last year’s corresponding figure of Rs12,877.91bn.

Total assets of all commercial banks stood at Rs13,832.87bn, smaller by 0.46pc over previous week’s figure of Rs13,896.19bn, while total assets of specialised banks at Rs230.87bn, were higher 0.06pc over the previous week’sRs230.71bn.

Gross advances of all scheduled banks stood at Rs5,183.20bn, higher by 0.34pc over the preceding week’s figure of 5,165.37bn. Compared with last year’s corresponding figure of Rs4,625.59bn, current week’s figure is higher by 12.05pc.

Advances by all commercial banks increased to Rs5,018.72bn from previous week’s Rs5,000.96bn indicating a rise of 0.36pc, whereas advances of specialised banks stood at Rs164.49bn against previous week’s 164.41bn.

Borrowings by all scheduled banks continued to decrease in the week under review. It fell by 1.40pc to Rs1,638.999bn against previous week’s Rs1,662.28bn. Compared to last year’s corresponding figure of Rs1,830.51bn, current week’s figure is lower by 10.46pc.

Borrowings by commercial banks in the week at Rs1,560.62bn were lower by 1.47pc against previous week’s Rs1,583.93bn. Borrowings by specialised banks stood at Rs78.38bn against the previous week’s Rs78.35bn.

Investments of all scheduled banks stood at Rs7,172.27bn against preceding week’s figure of Rs7,191.45bn, showing a decline of 0.27pc. Compared to last year’s corresponding figure of Rs6,522.99bn, current week’s figure is higher by 9.95pc.

Investments by all commercial banks stood at Rs7,124.74bn, lower by 0.30pc against preceding week’s figure of Rs7,146.28bn, whereas investment by all specialised banks stood at Rs47.53bn against preceding week’s figure of Rs45.17bn.

Cash and balances with treasury banks of all scheduled banks decreased over the week and stood at Rs.795.85bn against previous week’s Rs851.49bn, showing a fall of 6.53pc. Current week’s figure increased by 9.22pc compared to last year’s corresponding figure of Rs728.66bn.

Cash and balances of all commercial banks stood at Rs793.09bn, smaller by 6.60pc over previous week’s Rs849.07bn.

Cash and balances of all specialised banks were higher by 14.34pc at Rs2.76bn against the preceding week’s Rs2.41bn.
