ISLAMABAD: Minister of State for Information Technology and Telecommunication Anusha Rahman has directed the Universal Services Fund (USF) Company to establish an internal evaluation and monitoring mechanism in order to ensure transparency and efficiency in the company’s affairs.
She gave the directive while chairing the 49th board of directors meeting of the USF Company, said a press release issued on Thursday.
The IT minister, who was also the chairperson of the USF board, reviewed the existing and upcoming projects of the company such as the establishment of telecentres and computer labs in the women empowerment centres administered through the Baitul Maal.
The setting up of 100 computer labs under the “ICTs for Girls” project was also discussed.
“It is our utmost priority to connect the unconnected, therefore, we are focusing on broadband connectivity and provision to even remote and un-served rural areas of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan so that our dream of Digital Pakistan could materialise by 2018,” the minister said.
She directed the USF to bolster the monitoring and evaluation resources to ensure the optimal use and sustainability of rolled-out projects.
The board members suggested that performance appraisal of all employees working in the USF should be conducted on a quarterly basis and a report should be submitted to the board.
Other board members who attended the meeting were IT Secretary Rizwan Bashir Khan, Member Telecom Mudassar Hussain, PTA Chairman Dr Ismail Shah and USF CEO Faisal Sattar.
