LAHORE: Trade organisations of Pakistan and Italy have reached an understanding on promoting and expanding cooperation between textile and apparel companies of the two sides.
Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PRGMEA) and the Association of Italian Textile Machinery Manufacturers (ACIMIT) inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for collaboration.
Representatives of major apparel associations and many leading Italian textile machinery manufacturing companies were present on the occasion.
This is the first time that a Pakistani garment sector association has entered into an agreement with the Italian body for strengthening mutual trade in garments and textiles.
According to the MoU, PRGMEA and ACIMIT have agreed to manage business contacts, seminars, business meetings, presentations, exhibitions and other arrangements to make potential partners and export possibilities available in the two countries.
They will assist each other in small and medium-sized business development, provide technical assistance, search for partners for trade and joint ventures as well as render other services of interest for business enterprises of both parties.
PRGMEA will provide visa assistance for Italian companies, besides arranging factory visits for Italian delegations and B2B meetings with its members on their arrival in Pakistan.
ACIMIT and PRGMEA have agreed to regularly exchange, provide and update each other on information that they have about new technological developments for machinery and accessories for the textile sector in Italy and the international market as well as information about the production of textile sector in Pakistan.
Commenting on the MoU, PRGMEA Central Chairman Ijaz Khokhar highlighted that ACIMIT would provide the garment manufacturers association and its member companies with free consultations for adopting right technologies and contacting suppliers of textile machinery and accessories, especially from among ACIMIT’s member companies.
He said ACIMIT, as part of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ministry of Economic Development and Italian Trade Agency, would promote bilateral trade, investment and economic relations between Italy and Pakistan.
Khokhar stressed that Italy was a big traditional market and could offer a lot of opportunities for Pakistani merchandise. “The MoU will go a long way towards helping Pakistan’s value-added garment manufacturers to find their way into the Italian market.”
