Weekly inflation records slight decline

ISLAMABAD: Inflation for the week ended on November 24 for the combined income group decreased 0.06 per cent.

According to data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) on Friday, the Sensitive Price Index (SPI) for the combined income group was recorded at 220.57 points against 220.70 points a week ago.

Against the corresponding period of the last year, SPI for the combined group in the week under review increased 0.80pc.

Weekly SPI covers 17 urban centres and 53 essential items for combined and different income groups. Meanwhile, weekly SPI for the lowest income group earning up to Rs8,000 decreased 0.15pc.

Weekly SPI also decreased 0.12pc for the income group earning from Rs8,001 to Rs12,000. The decline for Rs12,001-Rs18,000, Rs18,001-Rs35,000 and above-Rs35,000 income groups remained 0.09pc, 0.06pc and 0.01pc, respectively.

During the week under review, average prices of 12 items registered a decrease. Average prices of 11 items increased while those of the remaining 30 items remained unchanged.

The items that registered a decrease in their prices during the week included sugar, onions, gur, mash pulse, gram pulse, chicken (farm), red chilly (powder), potatoes, LPG cylinder, mustard oil, masoor pulse and vegetable ghee.

The items that recorded an increase in their average prices included tomatoes, eggs, tea (prepared), tea (packet), firewood, wheat, bananas, vegetable ghee, cooked beef and moong pulse.

The items with no change in their average prices during the week were wheat flour (bag), rice basmati (broken), rice (irri-6), bread (plain), beef, mutton, milk (fresh), curd, milk (powdered), cooking oil, salt (powder), cooked daal, cigarettes, long cloth, shirting, lawn printed, georgette, gents’ sandal, ladies’ sandal, gents’ chappal, electricity charges, gas charges, kerosene, electric bulb, washing soap, matchbox, petrol, diesel, telephone local call and bath soap.
