Hollywood actor Lindsay Lohan caused quite a furore last year when pictures of her carrying a copy of the Holy Quran had surfaced with many speculating that the Catholic-born actor had converted to Islam.
The troubled actor has finally opened up about the photos for the first time and has confirmed that she is studying the religion.
Young Muslim American fighting Islamophobia, one ignorant question at a time.
“I’m a very spiritual person and I’m really open to learning. America has portrayed holding a Holy Quran in such a different way to what it actually is. We all believe in something and at the end of the day it all ties to a god or a spiritual adviser,” she said.
However, the actor isn’t done reading the Holy Book yet. “I’m not done reading it. Do you know how long that would take? It takes so long.”
The Mean Girls star is not the only one in her family to change her beliefs, her sister Ali Lohan has converted to Buddhism. “We all have a similar belief in whatever it may be personally. My sister is Buddhist but she is still interested in learning other things from me. It’s good to be open-minded.”
If Lohan does indeed decide to embrace Islam, she wouldn’t be the first showbiz personality to do so. Other celebrities such as Janet Jackson, Mike Tyson, Cat Stevens, Jemima Khan and Cassius Clay have all embraced Islam in the past.

Lohan served 14 days in prison for drink-driving in 2010. Since then she has embraced her spiritual side. She revealed that she meditates when she gets edgy, “It all comes down to meditation for me. I do this thing called tapping. I used it when I did The Jonathan Ross Show because he was going down the jail route. I was getting uncomfortable so had to do it.”
“I can hear every conversation in a room. I hear everything and I notice everything so I have to teach myself to shut my brain off.”
On a personal front, there are rumours about that Lohan is engaged to Russian business heir Egor Tarabasov.
