Tennis star Sania Mirza has been awarded the Padma Bhushan for her contribution in the world of tennis, India’s third highest civilian honour from President Pranab Mukherjee at a glittering function at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Sania shared a picture on her official Twitter account.
Earlier last night, Mirza was also honoured at the NRI of the Year Award 2016 where she was conferred with the Global Indian Icon of the year award. It has been a good year for Sania so far where she has the Australian Open with Martina Hingis and ended the doubles winning streak at 41.
However, Tamil film star Rajinikanth, Bollywood actor Ajay Devgn, Priyanka Chopra, playback singer Udit Narayan, tennis star Sania Mirza were among those who were conferred with the Padma awards.
The singer Udit Narayan is one of the most known voices in Bollywood and has given more than 100 hit songs in his career. While Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra and the former Miss world has been a part of Hindi cinema for almost a decade and have made India proud globally with her stint in the American TV series ‘Quantico’.
Reportedly, Vice President Mohammed Hamid Ansari, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh were among the dignitaries present on the occasion.
