At a public grievance meeting in Bidar on Saturday, a homeless woman alleged that officials were asking for bribes and produce recommendation letters from politicians.
She told district in-charge Minister Eshwar Khandre that she had neither a house nor a plot, but the city municipal council officials were harassing her whenever she applied for a house.
Deputy Commissioner Anurag Tewari asked her to approach the CMC Commissioner. She immediately replied that whenever she went to them, they asked her for money. “They also ask me if I had any recommendation letter from any leader,” she said. Her responses were met with applause and hoots from the audience.
Mr. Khandre clarified that there were no need to give money to any officer or middleman. “If any one asks you for money, please complain to me about it,” the Minister said. He assured her that all allotments would be done in a transparent manner.
Mr. Tewari assured the woman that her problem would be resolved soon. “In case any officer asks you who sent you, please tell them that the DC has sent you,” the DC said.
