ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Muhammad Asif Monday said government would be able to overcome electricity shortage across the country by 2018 after completion of several mega projects of energy generation.
He was speaking in Senate in response of a seeking recommendation to government for release of funds to convert tub wells into solar system in Balochistan.
He said government had allocated Rs 20 billions for PSDP projects in Balochistan but the provincial government did not give a single project which led to the laps of funds.
The provincial government and representatives from Balochistan could use these funds for above project.
The minister said the government was ready to release funds for this project but there was a need to introduce a complete package for conversion of tube wells into solar system to save water and properly use it.
He said the ground water table would further decrease in Balochistan in area already facing water shortage.
He said the governments of Sindh Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were introducing solar system by using their own resournces.
Khawaja Asif said government was in favor to solarize the energy system.
He said Rs 106 billions were payable from Balochistan in line of these tube wells adding that the provincial government was not giving its share of subsidy in this regard.
