KARACHI: The Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) on Thursday urged the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to do away with discrimination in duties and taxes between commercial and industrial imports of raw materials.
FPCCI Senior Vice President Sheikh Khalid Tawab said differences in duties and taxes invited corruption and caused huge revenue loss to the exchequer.
In support of his argument, he said, “Most of the raw material imported by commercial or industrial consumers is ultimately consumed by industry for value addition and there remains no solid reason to keep the difference in duty and taxes between the two.”
Tawab also urged the Chief Collector of Customs (Preventive) to immediately implement SRO 1220(I)/2015 dated Dec 4, 2015, restricting shipping companies and their agents from collecting illegal charges from importers.
