Karachi - Trade and industry has termed the signing of trade accords between Pakistan and Turkey as a good sign to boost the bilateral trade between the two brotherly countries.

Prominent business leader S M Muneer, Chairman Ehtesham Uddin, President All Karachi Industrial Alliance, Mian Zahid Hussain, Vice Chairmen, Hasham A Razzak and Tariq Malik and Chairman Standing Committee on Press and Media, Syed Johar Ali Qandhari said that MOUs in various fields to promote business and investment between the two countries is a welcome move and this would help Pakistani businessmen manifold.

They said that Pakistan-Turkey Joint Ministerial Commission (JMC) has signed nine documents for cooperation in various fields particularly investments, energy and communications in a bid to further strengthen their bilateral relationship.

The documents included an Agreement on bilateral investment, five memoranda of understanding (MoUs) mainly on energy, education and communication and two protocols on Joint Ministerial Commission and cooperation on archives.

The Agreement concerning the reciprocal Promotion and Protection of Investments, MoU on cooperation in the field of International Road Transport, MOU on cooperation in the field of Renewable Energy, MoU between Quaid-e-Azam University and Turkey’s METUTECH, MoU in the field of urbanization and solid waste management were the major signs of improvement in trade and investment and brotherly relations, S M Muneer said.

He added that at this juncture when Pakistan earnestly needs foreign investments is facing various problems from its traditional trading partners and the time has come to enhance bilateral trade with China, OIC, GCC and countries in the region.
