KARACHI: Chief Secretary Sindh Siddique Memon said on Tuesday that the provincial government, on the directives of chief minister, had enhanced the sports budget from Rs1 billion to Rs2 billion.
He announced this at a ceremony in Gulshan-e-Iqbal and added that Sindh government had begun the construction of sports complexes across the province. “Thirty-eight sports schemes are already running in the province and Karachi Hockey Complex is part of those schemes,” he said.
He further said that Sindh government’s schemes had been completed in Sukkur, Larkana and Mirpurkhas. “On the special instructions of the chief minister, the government is going to initiate 54 sports projects this year and the government will give a grant of Rs3 million to Karachi Hockey Association as well for improvement of the game.”
Chancellor of Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology Javed Awar said that Karachi Hockey Complex will play an effective role in the promotion of sports activities. He said that a show-match will be played between Sir Syed University’s team and team of Olympian and international players at the inauguration.
Sports Seccretary Sindh Muhamad Rashid and Chief Engineer Aslam were also present on the occasion.
