KARACHI: The administration of a local superstore challenged the government’s decision to close it at the Sindh High Court on Friday.
According to details, the superstore, which is located at the city’s Gulshan-e-Iqbal area, challenged the government’s closure decision today. The petition filed by the superstore authorities stated that the order by the provincial government to close the supermarket throughout the day was illegal.
Furthermore, it was stated in the petition that the responsibility to control traffic lay with the traffic police and local administration. The closure of the supermarket was resulting in losses by the millions, stated the petition.
The opening of the supermarket, which also has branches in other areas of Karachi, caused massive traffic jams. Illegal parking, blocked roads and traffic jams were caused a hundreds of people flocked to the superstore.
Residents of Gulshan-e-Iqbal also complained of pollution and traffic jams.
Keeping the public interest in view, Gulzar-e-Hijri assistant commissioner Ishaq Dad issued the orders for the supermarket to remain closed partially for six hours throughout the day. The supermarket was accused of not containing enough car-parking space for its customers as it was required to do so.
