LAHORE: The Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) has hired two new full-time faculty members Dr Martin Wilhelm Lau and Dr Jawad Syed for the academic year 2016-17.
Dr Martin has joined the varsity as the inaugural professor of law and dean of the Shaikh Ahmad Hassan School of Law (SAHSOL). Dr Jawad has joined as a professor (tenure track) in the Suleman Dawood School of Business (SDSB).

Both professors will help advance LUMS’ key goals of building an internationally competitive university through excellence in education and research, said a press release issued by the varsity.
Dr Jawad earned his PhD in business from the Macquarie University of Australia in 2008 and completed a postgraduate certificate in higher education from the University of Kent, UK. He has come to Lums from the University of Huddersfield, where he was a professor of organisational behaviour and diversity management.
Dr Jawad also serves as a member of several editorial boards of STM journals and has published extensively in scholarly journals such as the Human Resource Management Journal and the British Journal of Management.

He was conferred Sitara-e-Imtiaz on August 14, 2011 by the president for his contributions and public service in the fields of equality and diversity management.
Dr Martin holds a PhD in law from University of London and an MA in Area Studies (South Asia) from The School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS). Before joining Lums, he was a professor in south Asian law and the deputy head of Law School at SOAS.
He served as the chair of the Law School at SOAS between 2002 and 2005 and as the director of the Centre of Islamic and Middle Eastern Law at SOAS between 1995 and 1998. He has also served as the chief examiner for Islamic law for the LLB Programme at SOAS.
