KARACHI: Two suspected robbers were caught and set on fire by a mob in Korangi Sector-32/A on Saturday before they were taken into custody by police and shifted to a hospital where one of them later died during treatment, officials said.
They added that the suspects, Abdul Rehman and Shahzad Asghar, had earlier fired at one of the two brothers, Mohammad Ahmed and Zohaib, in a botched attempt to snatch cash and valuables from them. The suspects also hit Zohaib in the head before being caught by area people, said Korangi SHO Abdul Majeed Nagra.
“The incident occurred at around 11:45am,” he said, adding that it was a crowded place. They subjected the robbers to a severe beating before setting fire to them, said the SHO.
The police officer said after receiving information about the incident on his cell phone, he with a police team rushed to the spot. The crowd was baton-charged to clear the way and put out the fire, he said.
The officer said the injured suspects were taken into custody and shifted to the Civil Hospital Karachi.
He said one of the suspects, Shahzad Asghar, died during treatment at the burns centre of Civil Hospital Karachi on Saturday night.
