PESHAWAR: Minister for Religious Affairs Sardar Yousuf on Tuesday assured Mufti Shahabuddin Popalzai that Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee would not make announcement of moon sighting until evidence from Peshawar are collected.
The minister chaired a meeting of Ulema from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, who informed him about their grievances with regard to the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee.
The minister assured them the government would address their grievances and said the government wants Eid and Ramazan to be celebrated on the same day..
Popalzai said the central committee holds no religious authority, adding that he would welcome any evidence of moon sighting even if a meeting for this purpose is not being held.
The influential cleric told Sardar Yousaf that Masjid Qasim Khan would be open to accepting evidence of moon sighting on the 28th of Shabaan, the month preceding Ramazan.
