DOHA: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has said that Pakistan’s economy has witnessed a great turnaround and progress and development are taking the country forward to a bright future at a fast pace.
Addressing the Pakistani community here on Thursday, he said that during his meetings with Qatari leaders the role of Pakistanis had been praised in the development of Qatar. He said he was proud to hear appreciation of Pakistanis who were working with commitment and honesty and using their skills to earn a good name for their country.
In his meetings with the Qatar leadership, he said, he had stressed the need for increasing the annual bilateral trade from $300 million to at least $1 billion. The import of LNG will also boost trade figures between the two countries.
Mr Sharif said measures were being taken to overcome energy shortage and reduce tariff which would help lower prices of Pakistani products and make them competitive in the international market.
ZARB-I-AZB: He said the security situation in the country had improved after the Zarb-i-Azb operation which had “broken the back of terrorists”. The operation will be taken to its logical conclusion. He said the people of Karachi were praising the successes of the operation against miscreants.
Also on Thursday, a delegation of Qatar Investment Authority led by its Chief Executive Officer Sheikh Abdullah bin Muhammad Al-Thani called on Prime Minister Sharif.
The prime minister invited Qatari investors to explore opportunities in Pakistan, particularly in energy-related projects, infrastructure development and consumer-based industry.
The prime minister also invited Qatar’s petroleum and gas companies and businessmen to invest in oil and gas exploration and production and agriculture and livestock sectors.
