KARACHI: An increase has been recorded in street crimes ahead of Eid, which is only a few days away.
As Eid approaches in Pakistan, mobile phone theft and robberies have been on the rise in the metropolis. Mobile snatching has recently increased in the city.
Citizens who make use of ATMs and banks to withdraw cash are also not secure due to the increased amount of robberies. From 2011-2013, as many as 121,000 incidents of street crimes have taken place in the city.
After the Karachi operation, the street crimes incidents have dropped down to a little more than 47,000.
The city’s improving law and order situation slumped down a few weeks ago when famous qawwal Amjad Farid Sabri was gunned down in the city. During the same week, the son of Justice Sajjad Ali Shah, the Chief Justice of Sindh High Court, was kidnapped from a supermarket in Karachi.
Earlier this week, television actor Nadeem Jafri was also robbed of some valuables outside his house.
