TORKHAM: There were no signs of relaxations or deescalation of tension between neighbours India and Pakistan on Tuesday, one day after border forces from both countries shelled each other’s territory.
The curfew that was imposed by Pakistan at the Torkham bazaar continued however, according to the political administration, the Landi Kotal bazaar was opened after two days of closure.
After a whole day of no firing from either sides yesterday, Afghanistan had resorted to resuming the shelling. Five FC personnel had been injured in the attack. The injured had been shifted to Landi Kotal CMH Hospital for treatment. As of now, the curfew has been lifted from Landi Kotal bazaar.
Yesterday, when the unannounced curfew had been imposed by authorities, it had affected trade at the Torkahm border significantly. The situation continues, as all incoming and outgoing vehicles or traffic has been stopped at the Torkham border.
Pakistan has been constructing a a gate within its side of the border, near the Torkham border. This was to ensure proper checking and monitor of those who were trying to enter the country illegally via the border.
Pakistan alleges that Afghanistan shelled its border unprovoked and the Pakistani forces responded ‘effectively’. According to various internation reports, one Afghanistan soldier died in the exchange between both forces.
During the past few months, after terrorist attacks in Pakistan, the Islamic Republic has called for increased monitoring across the Torkham border it shares with Afghanistan.
