Microsoft unveils probably its last Nokia phone

Nokia is not dead yet as Microsoft is still making Nokia phones. The software giant released on Tuesday its latest Nokia 216 feature phone.

The launch of new feature phone has come as a surprise for many as the company earlier this year had announced the decision to sell its feature phone business to FIH Mobile, a subsidiary of Foxconn.

Deal puts Microsoft apps on Lenovo smartphones

Set to launch next month in India, the new Nokia 216 is one of the most basic phones that Microsoft manufactures. The phone runs a Series 30 OS and will pack a 2.4-inch QVGA LCD display, 0.3-megapixel front and rear cameras with a removable 1020mAh battery and 16MB RAM.

It also has 16MB of Internal storage space with an option to support a SD Card up to 64GB. Microsoft will also launch dual-sim version of the device.

Nokia relaunches smartphone line-up

Earlier this year, Microsoft sold its feature phone business to Foxconn subsidiary FIH Mobile for $350 million. Microsoft has significantly scaled back its phone business, and laid off thousands of employees as part of a $7.6 billion write off for acquiring Nokia’s phone business. Rumours suggest Microsoft might be working on a new Surface Phone for launch in 2017.

The Nokia 216 is expected to hit stores on October 24. It will be priced at $37.
