No rally for Zardari’s homecoming

KARACHI: The PPP leadership has decided not to take out a rally to celebrate ex-president Asif Zardari’s homecoming on Friday to avoid public inconvenience. Instead, arrangements are being made for a public gathering outside the Old Terminal of Karachi Airport.

“Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari has decided not to hold a homecoming parade for President Zardari as it could cause inconvenience to people,” said Waqar Mehdi, general secretary of the PPP Sindh, while speaking to Dawn.

However, the traffic police issued a diversion plan to avoid possible snarl-ups the event could cause.

Alternative route from the airport to Clifton/Defence will be from Hino Chowrangi, Korangi Industrial Area, via Link Road Malir City Police Station, Model Colony to airport. Residents of Liaquatabad and Gulshan-i-Iqbal could use University Road, Safoora, Model Colony to airport.

People can use Seaview road and China Chowrangi for Ziauddin Hospital. For JPMC, residents of Clifton/Defence could use Khaliq-uz-Zaman Road, Lilly Bridge, School Road Cantt; residents of Landhi/Korangi can use Korangi Road to CSD; and residents of Garden and Saddar may go from Saddar.
