Pakistani, Indian troops exchange fire across LoC

Pakistan and Indian border troops exchanged fire across the Line of Control (LoC) on Saturday, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said.

“Indian troops resort to unprovoked firing in Tander and Baroh areas of Bhimber sector today,” a statement released by ISPR said.

It added that Pakistan Army troops were effectively targeting Indian posts in response.

No loss of life was reported in the latest exchange of fire, the ISPR said.

Earlier this week, seven Pakistani soldiers were killed during cross-border firing across the LoC.

Following the incident, the Foreign Office summoned Indian High Commissioner Gautam Bambawale to lodge a protest against the killing of soldiers.

The FO Spokesperson Nafees Zakaria said India must stop all ceasefire violations and avoid targeting residents along the LoC.

“We reserve the right to respond befittingly respond to Indian aggression,” he said at the time.

The latest incidents of cross-border firing come as tensions simmer between Pakistan and India over the Kashmir issue.

Temperature between the South Asian rivals has been high since an Indian crackdown on dissent in India-held Kashmir following the killing by Indian forces of Burhan Wani, a young separatist leader, in July.
