Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan has questioned if the government was projecting an impression that the new chief justice and army chief favoured the ruling party.
“Khurshid Shah stated in Parliament, there was an impression that the new Chief Justice of Pakistan has a soft corner for the PML-N, while the changes in military ranks also suggest so,” Imran Khan told journalists in Lahore on Friday.
Imran said he does not know if there was any truth in the notion but added that “what I do know is that Maryam Nawaz tweeted that the storm has passed.” What does this mean, Imran questioned, adding, “with such statements the government itself is projecting the perception that some sort of change is suiting them.”

‘PTI should stop bullying institutions’
Observing that the case was ongoing at the Supreme Court, the PTI chairman asked how the “stormed had passed”. “So, what sort of message are they giving to the masses, are they not giving an impression that the new army chief and chief justice are of their choice,” Imran asked.
“The stormed hasn’t passed since the case is underway in the apex court, he remarked.
Last month, the Supreme Court’s five-judge bench started hearing a slew of petitions filed in the wake of the Panama Papers, which revealed that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s family members owned offshore companies in international tax havens.
The PTI chairman went on to add that this impression was wrong and undermined public confidence in state institutions. “Maryam Nawaz in her current capacity should not issue such statements and undermine own institutions.
