The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Tuesday allowed ex-president Asif Ali Zardari’s brother-in-law MNA Mir Munawwar Ali Talpur to leave the country for two months in order to get medical treatment abroad.
The PPP MNA from NA-227 (Mirpurkhas), who is the husband of Zardari’s sister Faryal, had filed an application seeking permission to travel abroad on medical grounds.
Headed by Justice Naimatullah Phulpoto, a two-judge bench granted Mir Talpur’s application and ordered that he may travel abroad for medical treatment from Dec 14 to Feb 14.
PPP MNA Mir Munawwar Ali Talpur.
The bench also extended his protective bail till Feb 14.
He sought pre-arrest bail from the high court as he anticipated arrest by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) which had initiated an inquiry against him over charges of corruption.
The bench directed the investigation officer of the inquiry against Talpur to submit comments on the matter by the next date of hearing.
The petitioner stated that NAB recently issued him a call-up notice regarding the alleged illegal allotment of land and misappropriation of millions of rupees.
He said NAB was trying to falsely implicate him in the cases but he was never involved in any corruption or misuse of authority.
The former president’s brother-in-law further submitted in the petition that he was being “harassed by NAB” under the pretext of that inquiry.
He asked the SHC to restrain NAB from arresting him without the court’s permission.
