KARACHI: Shahid Afridi remains confident of making his Pakistan comeback even after getting overlooked for this summer’s tour of England.
The former Pakistan captain, who was held responsible for Pakistan’s dismal showing in the ICC World Twenty20 championship in India, revealed that he is aiming to regain his form and fitness in order to earn back his place in the national T20 squad.
Afridi announced that he will be playing county cricket in England this summer in a bid to prove his worth.
On Monday, chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq decided against including Afridi in the list of probables for Pakistan’s big assignment a full tour of England this summer. Pakistan will play four Tests, five One-day Internationals and just one Twenty20 game during the tour.
But the former Pakistan skipper kept the door ajar for the star all-rounder when he said that Afridi could be recalled to the Twenty20 squad if needed.
Afridi hailed the selection committee for including youngsters in the preliminary squad.
“Appreciate the approach by selection committee. Happy that youngsters are getting a chance,” he tweeted.
“I am going to play county cricket this season and will IA try to prove my fitness & form and make a comeback.”
