Babar Azam reveals his favourite cricketing shot

Pakistan middle-order batsman Babar Azam on late Friday revealed the cover drive as the shot he likes to play.

In a post-match interview with Ramiz Raja for Ten Sports, Babar was asked which shot is his favourite and he replied: “When I hit it through covers.”

Babar scored unbeaten 55 off 37 balls courtesy six boundaries and two sixes to guide his team home with 34 balls and nine wickets remaining against the visiting West Indies in the first of three-match T20Is in Dubai.

1st T20I: Five-star Imad Wasim leads Pakistan’s rout of Windies

Pakistan, after winning the toss, sent the Windies in to bat first and with the help of Imad Wasim’s man-of-the-match five-for bowled the visitors out for a paltry 115 in the last over.

Sharjeel Khan and Khalid Latif opened the chase for Pakistan and the former was bowled by Samuel Badree after scoring 22 off 18 balls.

In came Babar who, with Latif, made sure the team went past the finishing line in the 15th over.

‘Windies can be a handful against Pakistan even without top players’

When asked about what changed after Sarfraz Ahmed’s promotion to Pakistan T20I captain, Babar said: “The team management has given us confidence and Sarfraz also helps everyone a lot.”

The 21-year-old added that all coaches bring the same game plans to the table but Mickey Arthur’s presence itself is making a difference.

On the question of his fitness, Babar was quite happy to comment that he was fit and in perfect condition. He also said that the players are concentrating on fielding as it has become a very important aspect of the game.

Always believed in leading by example, says Sarfraz

Post-match ceremony quotes

Sarfraz Ahmed: Credit goes to players. Everyone is working hard. Fielding is important, body language is important. We are motivating them. We try to get early wickets with Imad, other bowlers also helped. We are trying to play attacking cricket. We know if we take wickets, then only we can win.

Man-of-the-match Imad Wasim: I just go out there and give my 100%, rest is in the hand of Almighty. I just focus on the batsman and stick to the captain’s plan to bowl wicket to wicket.

Brathwaite tells newcomers to express themselves against Pakistan

Carlos Brathwaite: Not a great start. We need to change our plans. These things can happen. We didn’t come to the party today. We will come out tomorrow and try to make the Windies people proud. We fought hard but we will try to come out tomorrow and put up a better performance. It [the weather] is not going to change but we can, we have to cope with it.
