Windies batsman Chris Gayle wishes Nawaz Sharif well for surgery

Big-hitting West Indies left-hander Chris Gayle on Monday wished Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif a successful surgery in a video circulating on social media.

The video shared by Pakistani batsman Ahmed Shahzad on his Twitter account features Gayle sending his prayers to the premier and his family as Nawaz is scheduled to undergo open-heart surgery in London on Tuesday (today).

“My thoughts and prayers go to the PM in London. I wish him a successful surgery and I hope all goes according to plan,” said Gayle says in the video.

“Mr Muhammad Sharif, God bless you and your family, and we all wish you well. Fingers crossed, it will be a success,” the Jamaican added.

Shehzad also posted a video featuring his Quetta Gladiators teammate and England batsman Kevin Pietersen who had a similar message for the Pakistan premier.

“All the very best,” Pietersen says, adding: “Thoughts and prayers with you and your family. Hope everything goes okay.”

The prime minister is expected to stay in the hospital for a week. Nawaz’s daughter, Maryam, earlier said that the PM had undergone a cardiac procedure called ‘Atrial Fibrillation Ablation’ in 2011, “during which certain complications occurred resulting in perforation of heart which was in turn treated by open heart surgery”.

“After some recent symptoms a team of cardiologists and cardiac surgeons carried out some scans and tests, following which they decided to go for an open heart surgery,” she said.

During this time, the premier will be overseeing the affairs of his government from London, the media wing of PM House said earlier.

“The prime minister is being informed regularly about the overall situation of the country and in this regard both the military and principal secretaries are… regularly providing assistance to the prime minister who is also in direct contact with his cabinet colleagues and issuing necessary orders.”
